Living in Los Angeles, Vickii Ma took the leap and pursued different career paths, eventually settling into entrepreneurship. While the transition was daunting for her, Vickii has since reaped the rewards of her choice, finding happiness in the freedom she now has. Vickii’s journey displays that success is often not a linear path, but eventually, the dots will connect.
Leaping into New Cities, New Challenges, and a Life of Creative Entrepreneurship
In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I packed two suitcases and took a leap of faith, moving to New York City. Navigating the visa process was incredibly stressful, but I was determined to experience the energy and dynamism of the city and to push myself beyond my comfort zone.
A few years later, I found myself drawn to the West Coast, and I’ve been based in Los Angeles ever since.
Now, I run my own business while building a home and laying down roots in the U.S.

Professionally, I work in marketing within the real estate and consumer packaged goods industries, collaborating with some of the most exciting brands out there. I love what I do—it’s a blend of strategy, creativity, and storytelling, all of which fuel my passion for connecting people with spaces and products that elevate everyday life.

Building a Business Journey with Purpose and Boldness
After university, I landed a role at a top consulting firm, diving into the world of management consulting. It was a prestigious, stable career path, but after a few years, I felt the pull toward something different. I knew I wanted more creative freedom and the ability to build something of my own.
Taking the leap from corporate life to entrepreneurship wasn’t easy. Leaving behind the security of a steady paycheck was daunting, but it was a necessary step to carve out my own path.
Since then, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to start and grow multiple businesses, including a thriving cookie brand, an e-commerce label for home goods, and a marketing studio.

Embracing Uncertainty, Growing Through Change, and Building with Community
Courage:
Leaving Singapore meant stepping into the unknown, without the safety net of familiar connections or a pre-established support system. I had to start from scratch, building relationships and carving out opportunities for myself. Many questioned my decision to move, especially during a global pandemic, but instead, I embraced the challenge and took the risk.
Resilience:
The transition wasn’t easy, and there were moments when I felt lost. Finding my footing took time, but I’m grateful I persevered. Living abroad has shaped me in ways I never expected—it has pushed me to be more adaptable, open-minded, and proactive, whether in seeking out new clients, immersing myself in different cultures, or forging meaningful friendships. The struggles were real, but so was the growth.
Joy:
What I love most about my journey is the freedom it has given me—not just professionally, but in life. I get to shape my own schedule, work on projects that excite me, and, most importantly, be more present for my loved ones. It’s surreal to look back and realize that I’ve built a life that aligns with my dreams, and every step has made it all the more fulfilling.
Collective Strength:
One of the most meaningful parts of this journey has been the people I’ve met along the way. Leaving the corporate world meant stepping into unfamiliar territory, but I was fortunate to find mentors, peers, and communities who offered guidance and support. Whether it was a piece of advice at the right moment or someone vouching for me in a room I wasn’t in, their kindness has made a huge difference. It’s a reminder that no one builds their path alone—every opportunity is, in some way, shaped by the generosity and encouragement of others.

Trusting the Timing, Learning from Setbacks, and Staying True to the Journey
Sometimes, you just have to take the leap—there’s hardly a perfect time to start. As long as you stay true to your values and embrace the journey with resilience, it will be a meaningful one.
Don’t take every setback personally. It’s okay to grieve the disappointments, process the emotions, and then move forward. Things won’t always go as planned, but trust that in time, the dots will connect. What may seem like a detour now could turn out to be a pivotal part of your story.
