Laura Ng moved to Munich, balancing her roots with the excitement of building new dreams abroad. Despite facing uncertainties, she founded a company that helps bridge cultures and businesses. Her story is one of boldness — reminding us that while beginnings may be frightening, staying still can cost even more.
Living Abroad, Growing Roots, and Building Bridges
I have been living in Germany for the last 10 years, residing in cities such as Munich, Berlin, and Dresden. I am currently based in Munich. I wear many hats: by day, I am a data analyst; by night, a tea sommelier and the co-founder of a non-profit organization for Southeast Asian entrepreneurs in Europe.
I moved to Munich with my Singaporean husband as he was completing his joint-program PhD between NTU and TUM. I took the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and explore new opportunities overseas. Living abroad has broadened my perspective on topics such as the measurement of success, the importance of hobbies and quality "me-time," and the value of slowing down.
I stay connected to Singapore by keeping up with current affairs, maintaining a circle of Singaporean friends in every city I live in, and hosting makan (food) sessions with friends.
For six years, we led the Singaporeans in Germany community, which allowed us to form many meaningful friendships. This experience inspired us to establish a non-profit organization to support fellow Southeast Asian entrepreneurs.
Sharing Tea, Stories, and Support for Southeast Asian Entrepreneurs

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I co-founded Hungry Tea Masters with my husband. We realized there was a lack of tea knowledge in Europe, so we decided to share our passion through a fun tea-pairing concept.
We pair teas with local dishes and share stories about the teas and their origins. During the founding phase of our tea sommelier consultancy business, we faced many challenges that could have been avoided if we had been more informed about available resources.
This led us to co-found the Southeast Asian Entrepreneurs in Europe Association e.V., a non-profit organization that provides a support system for Southeast Asian entrepreneurs and senior working professionals. Our goal is to lower the barrier of entry to Europe by sharing resources and experiences.
Doing Good as a Path to Growth and Joy

My main motivation is to do good. Sharing happiness, knowledge, and resources with those in need brings me great joy and helps me grow as a person. Every interaction and engagement gives me the opportunity to learn more about life and gain new perspectives.
Venturing Forward with Courage, Optimism, and Community Support

I tend to venture into uncharted waters, such as introducing the tea-food-pairing concept to Germany and setting up a non-profit organization to bring Southeast Asians in Europe together.
These journeys require optimism that things will work out, the courage to ask for help, and the determination and resilience to overcome challenges when things don’t go as planned.
Of course, this journey would not have been possible without the support of networks like the Singapore Global Network, Enterprise Singapore, the Singapore Business Federation, and many others.
Seizing the Moment and Pursuing What Matters

Carpe Diem—live your life with no regrets. The first step is always the hardest, but the joy of working on your passion and watching your project grow is priceless.
