After a personal healing journey, Jane Tor envisioned creating spaces where Singaporeans could explore alternative life paths. Today, through her communities Going Slow and Let Me Be Academy, she empowers others to embrace self-discovery, resilience, and authentic living.
This particular story of mine begins in Croatia, where I was bringing my parents around Plitvice Lakes National Park. They had "broken" the COVID travel ban to visit me while I was on a year-long 'Eat Pray Love' journey, trying to heal and make sense of my divorce.
While walking around the park—completely empty because of COVID—my parents asked me what any normal parents would: "What are your plans? If you don’t continue to work, how will you earn an income? When are you returning home?"
I felt that immediate sense of pressure that I would normally feel when I’m in Singapore, and in an attempt to relieve it, I told them about a dream I’d been having.
"I envision one day building a community for Singaporeans—a space where we can normalize alternative life paths. I’d like to create a community space where people feel free to be themselves, where they can meet like-hearted individuals and realize that wanting to leave Singapore is not wrong. Every journey they take outdoors helps them take one more step inward, because sometimes, the longest journey we wish to embark on is the journey within. It’s just that it can feel so scary, lonely, and difficult at times, and it would be easier to have others alongside us."
I spoke of a dream, never knowing it would come true just four years later.
Travelling didn’t change me. I made the decision to change my inner state so that my external state could change.
Now, my energy is poured into two main channels:
- Going Slow: - An online community that meets up quarterly in Singapore. We have about 500 members in our Telegram community, and we regularly host meet-and-greet sessions so people can know they’re not alone in how they feel and what they want.
- Let Me Be Academy: - For those who have always wanted to change but don’t know how, our academy offers one-on-one coaching, group signature programs, and shared resources so that we may all feel empowered to be who we truly are.
Embracing Life as a Sacred Teacher and Choosing to Create with Intention

A huge turning point was when I started to take control of my life. I made a quiet affirmation within myself: "From now onwards, I’m the creator of my life."
Since then, I’ve made every experience, person, and living or non-living thing my teacher. I don’t choose who or what I learn from. Every experience is precious and interesting, and every moment is sacred and deserving.

We live in changing times, and society is created by living, breathing humans. Let us not live bound by the laws and norms created by humans in the past. Let us remember that we are the people of the Now and start creating laws and norms that are more suitable and supportive of our CURRENT living groups of people.
"What you seek is seeking you."
